This songspiel was the first collaboration between Weill and librettist/director Bertolt Brecht. The work led to Brecht's opera The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, but is also quite different from it. This is the first full score of the work. This edition includes a score in German with a foreword and introduction in English, facsimile, and libretto; and a separate volume of critical commentary in English. The edition is based on Weill's holograph full score of 1927, and a copyist's vocal score.
