With preface and critical notes in German. 7 facsimiles. Two versions of this work survive. The first version was composed in March 1815, scored for strings and organ. The second version is substantively the same, with only a major change to the Credo section, and the addition of two trumpets and timpani ad lib. Although evidence shows it was likely performed in the composer’s lifetime, the first documented performance was in 1841. The first version of the mass in this edition is based on an autograph copy of the composer’s manuscript held at Archiv der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Wien, and the second version is based on an autograph set of parts held by Augustiner Chorherrenstift Klosterneuburg.
